Beloved Super Bowl-winning coach Tony Dungy has written a tremendous daily guide for strengthening personal character: The One Year Uncommon Life Daily Challenge.
This is a well-organized, actionable daily manual for living that can be useful to anyone.
Each week is organized around recurring areas of daily focus: Core, Family, Friends, Potential, Mission, Influence and Faith. This enables the reader to reinforce the priority of each area. It also lends itself to being linked in with readers’ other ongoing efforts for self-improvement.
Each entry is keyed off a quotation from the Bible. Following a discussion of how to apply the principle to daily living, it concludes with a brief summary, entitled “Uncommon Key.”
One might well ask: Is this book oriented around professional sports?
The answer: Yes and No. Dungy and his co-author, Nathan Whitaker, include numerous mentions of sports figures and incidents. Those will certainly delight fans who know Dungy as a player, coach and television commentator.
On the other hand, those who are not interested in professional sports (or those who play sports but aren’t spectators) will also find value here. The principles are universal, and the sports examples are readily comprehended by anyone.
In sum, The One Year Uncommon Life Daily Challenge is highly recommended. Tony Dungy is an engaging writer who’s able to bring Biblical principles into our workaday world.
