Harvard, along with other universities in the Vietnam era (i.e. nearly half a century ago) exiled ROTC.
Harvard has continued to keep the armed services at arms’ length in the intervening years. Most recently, the public rationale has been the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. The federal government is now doing the right thing, throwing DADT into the dustbin of history. The underlying principle is important: In America, everyone can serve.
Now Harvard has the opportunity to lead, serving the nation by ensuring that all her students can serve the nation to the fullest extent.
